How to Choose Bridal Accessories to Suit your Wedding Dress

So you’ve chosen your wedding dress, congratulations! You’re now likely feeling even more excited about the big day as you’ve got your wedding dress all sorted (and hopefully you feel incredible in it), but then you start to wonder about how to complete the rest of your bridal look. You may ask yourself questions; for example if you want to wear a wedding veil, or if you should add some sparkle to your wedding dress. Below are some handy tips for picking those all-important pieces to elevate your bridal style on your wedding day.

What bridal look do you want for your wedding day?

It’s important that you feel special in everything you wear on your wedding day, but it’s also key to still feel like yourself and comfortable in your chosen wedding dress and bridal accessories. It’s always helpful to look at how you normally accessorise outfits you wear on special occasions; for example, do you like to wear statement earrings as an accent, or show off your waist with a chic belt? Defining your go-to accessories that feel great on when putting together a look for a special occasion is a great starting point for choosing your bridal accessories and will show off your personality more.

What kind of bridal veil should I wear?

It’s advisable during your wedding dress search to try on one or two veils at one of your appointments, ideally a long one that covers a train and a shorter fingertip or elbow length style. From years of bridal styling experience, it’s easy to tell if a bride loves a veil when getting them to try one on; for some it elevates their look and makes them feel even more bridal, whilst it can feel a bit overwhelming and over the top for others! If you’re feeling confident and comfortable in a veil once you’ve tried on a few, it’s a great idea to try on different styles once you’ve found your dress either at the same appointment, or alternatively at the first fitting once your wedding alterations are all in hand.

Remember there are no rules to wearing a veil, but it can be nice to choose something which makes a bit more of a statement such as our Piper pearl chapel length veil when wearing a simpler dress.

With a more detailed bridal gown such as a fitted lace number or more embellished wedding dress, many brides like to finish off their bridal look with our Edith barely there chapel length wedding veil. It’s simple and elegant, and best of all won’t steal the show from you in your dress!

A shorter veil is a great option for a slightly more understated accessory look. Our Alice barely there fingertip veil is made in a soft tulle, and is a subtle addition to give your wedding day look a lovely bohemian and relaxed vibe.

For something a little more traditional our Everly lace edged fingertip veil adds a little more detail with a scalloped eyelash lace trim, and beautifully complements any lace detailing on a dress.

Another lovely addition to your hairstyle which complements a veil is an embellished headpiece, such as our silver vintage style bridal hair comb. This versatile piece can be worn on one side of the head, or sat just above a veil comb to seamlessly look like an extension of your veil. It also works well as a standalone piece if you’ve decided against wearing a veil and gives a chic vintage bridal vibe.

If you like the idea of the drama of a veil but want to break away from tradition, our Willow bridal cape is a great alternative. Made with a soft tulle, it makes a real statement when walking down the aisle yet has a modern contemporary feel to it.

Bridal belts – to sparkle or not to sparkle?

Much like bridal veils, belts can really split opinions amongst brides. However, if you’re someone who likes a bit of sparkle and would like to add some extra glitz to your wedding day style, wearing a bridal belt or bridal sash is a great choice. We have several styles of crystal and pearl embellished bridal belts, which come attached to a sash available in several colourways. They’re particularly versatile, as they can be added and removed whenever you like throughout the day giving you two looks in one dress! A couple of favourites are our slim silver crystal and pearl bridal belt which is thin and effortlessly sits over a waist seam for that subtle bit of sparkle on your wedding dress.

If you’re wondering whether to add a splash of colour to your wedding dress, why not try our rose gold crystal and pearl bridal belt – which has a luxurious mixture of pearls, rose gold beads and crystals and is hand-sewn onto a rose gold sash (other colourways are available). This belt is sure to add the wow factor to your dress and catches the light beautifully!

If you like the idea of a bit of sparkle but are unsure of adding a bridal belt, a great alternative would be to add some statement jewellery such as these feather effect crystal drop bridal earrings which can be worn with little to no jewellery (apart from your gorgeous engagement ring!) and glam up your bridal look.
